Tech lookup — stack detection.

Detect what tools a company uses. Four-layer detection (JS sniffing + DNS + careers parsing + third-party feeds) means you see what surface-level tools miss. Single lookup, bulk import, or query against the full database.

TL;DR

What tech does this company use? Single-domain lookup, bulk CSV, or filter the full Accounts database by stack. Detection is multi-layer — we see things webserver-fingerprint tools miss (analytics tools, internal-only platforms, CRMs).

01What it is

A search-by-tech-stack feature. Type a domain, get the company's detected tools. Or invert: filter the Accounts database by "uses Snowflake" or "has dbt but not Fivetran."

Used for: pre-call research, lookalike scoping ("companies with the same stack as my best customer"), competitive displacement ("everyone running Segment we should pitch").

02The 4 detection layers

LayerWhat it seesCoverage
JS sniffingFrontend tools (analytics, A/B testing, chat widgets)Anything that injects client-side
DNS & MXEmail provider, hosting, CDN, third-party subdomainsEmail + infra
Careers-page parsingStack mentions in JDs ("must know Snowflake")Internal-only tools that JDs reveal
Third-party feedsCrunchbase, BuiltWith, partner directoriesCross-reference

03Single lookup flow

Type a domain in the lookup screen, hit enter. Results in <5 seconds for indexed companies, ~90 seconds for first-time crawl.

Output: categorized list of detected tools, with confidence per detection and source attribution. Click any tool to see "other companies that use this" — useful for lookalike workflows.

04Bulk lookup

Upload a CSV of domains (up to 1,000 per batch on Pro, 10,000 on Company). Mama processes them in background — results delivered as a downloadable CSV with one row per company, one column per detected tool.

Useful for: enriching existing CRM accounts, prospect-list research, M&A due diligence.

05Stack overlap analysis

Pick a reference company (your best customer, your top closed-won). Tech lookup shows you accounts in the database with the highest stack overlap with that reference.

This is a powerful lookalike vector. If your best customer uses Snowflake + dbt + Looker + HubSpot, accounts with 3-of-4 stack matches are higher-fit than firmographic lookalikes.

06Stack-change history

For each detected tool, Mama tracks when it was added or removed. Click "Stack history" on any company to see the timeline — when they added Snowflake, when they dropped Looker, when they swapped HubSpot for Salesforce.

This history is what powers the Tech-change signal in your feed. Same data, different surface.

07Common mistakes

Trusting JS-sniff results for internal tools
JS sniffing only sees what runs in the browser. Internal-only tools (Snowflake, Looker, internal CRMs) require careers-page or third-party data. Always check the source-attribution.
Doing 1-by-1 lookups when you have a list
Bulk lookup is faster, cheaper, and gives you a clean CSV. Use it.
Targeting on stack alone, ignoring signals
Stack fit is one input. An account using your ideal stack but with no fresh signals is a watch-list account, not a brief-today account.
