Buying signals

The moments a cold account turns warm — caught.

Mama watches 20+ sources around the clock for the six signal types that actually predict outbound replies. Funding, hiring, tech changes, exec moves, product launches, customer voice. Tagged, dated, ranked against your ICP — never just dumped in a feed.

Six categories. One playbook.

Six signal types that actually predict replies.

We track the ones outbound teams have always wished they had time to track. Not the noisy ones. Not the "trigger fatigue" ones. The six that move conversion when you act on them within the week.

Sources & detection

20+ sources. Watched on a clock you'd never afford.

Most "intent platforms" run one cron a night. Mama runs continuous scans by signal type — minutes for funding, hourly for hiring, daily NLP on voice. The reason her briefs are fresh on Monday morning is that she didn't sleep on Sunday.

Scoring

Every signal scored against your ICP. Not ours.

Volume is the easy part. Knowing which signals matter to your team is the part everyone gets wrong. Mama scores every signal on four dimensions, weighted by the ICP rubric you set up in 90 seconds during onboarding.

01 · ICP fit
Your ICP, not ours.
You define your ICP rubric — industry, employee count, funding stage, tech-stack tells. Mama scores every signal against that rubric. The same Series D round is 95 for a mid-market SaaS seller and 20 for someone selling to early-stage YC companies. Same signal, different scores.
02 · Recency
Signals decay. Mama doesn't lie about it.
A funding round from yesterday is a 100. From last week, a 78. From last quarter, a 30. The decay curve is calibrated per signal type — funding stays fresh longer than a product launch.
03 · Signal strength
Multi-source verification.
A signal confirmed by four sources scores higher than one whispered on a single forum. Strength accounts for primary-vs-secondary sources and known signal-quality patterns per category.
04 · Intent depth
Does this signal predict budget movement?
Funding rounds correlate moderately-strongly with tooling spend. Exec moves correlate strongly with vendor reviews. New product launches correlate with capacity to add complementary tools. Mama learns intent weighting per category from outcome data.
A naive feed gives your rep 1,247 signals this week. The scored feed gives them 47. Same data, 96% less noise — and the 47 are the ones that move conversion.
Signal → Brief

Where signals stop being data and start being a brief.

A scored signal is a raw input. Mama turns it into the one paragraph a rep actually opens before they send. Same Notion signal from the hero — here's the data on the left, here's what your rep reads on the right.

In the brief
01 · Why now
Notion just raised at a 13B valuation.
Sequoia led Notion's $250M Series D twelve minutes ago — their first major raise since 2021. The round closed at a $13B valuation, roughly flat to the last private mark, which signals the board is prioritizing tooling investment over a clean step-up. Best window in 18 months to pitch revenue-tools and outbound enablement: the budget exists, the buying committee is fresh, and growth pressure is back on the roadmap.

Signal questions

What everyone asks about signals.

Specifically about signal detection, scoring, and sources — pricing details and integration mechanics live on their own pages.

It varies by signal type — we don't pretend everything is sub-second. Funding rounds and product launches are detected within minutes of the primary source publishing (Crunchbase, SEC, Product Hunt, RSS). Hiring and exec moves refresh hourly across LinkedIn, ATS systems, and press. Tech changes run a full crawler pass daily because that's when the signal is reliable enough to ship. Customer voice runs a daily NLP pass on G2, Trustpilot, Capterra, Reddit, and X. Every signal in the brief is dated to the minute, and the freshness window is part of the score.
A mix. We run our own crawlers for tech-stack detection (the same shape BuiltWith does), exec-move tracking, careers-page parsing, and customer voice NLP. We pull from primary public sources for funding (SEC EDGAR, press, Crunchbase Open Data) and product launches (Product Hunt API, public RSS, GitHub releases). Where we use licensed data partners, we credit them in the brief. The full source list is available at signalmama.com/sources — under NDA for the underlying retrieval architecture.
On Pro, yes. Push your own signals into Mama via the webhook API — events from your data warehouse, your customer DB, your internal tooling, third-party platforms you already pay for. Mama treats your custom signals like any other category: they get scored against your ICP rubric, dated, attributed in the brief. Common patterns: feeding in pipeline-stage changes, intent-data subscriptions (Bombora, 6sense), product-usage signals from your own app telemetry. Solo and Team work with the 20+ built-in sources only.
Yes, on Pro. Define a new category (e.g., "Compliance event" for fintech-only workflows, or "Customer milestone" for expansion teams), tell Mama which sources to monitor for it and which rubric weights apply. The new category shows up alongside the built-in six everywhere — signal stream, briefs, scoring, attribution. We've seen teams add categories for things like "Regulatory filing", "Partnership announcement", and "Layoffs (downside signal)".
Several options, configurable per rep: real-time push to Slack (most popular — fires to a #buying-signals channel or DMs the assigned rep), email digest (daily or instant), webhook for your own tooling, in-app inbox. Filter rules let you scope alerts — "only signals with ICP fit ≥ 80", "only funding + exec moves", "only accounts in my territory". Default for new accounts: daily morning email digest of the top 20 signals.
It's logged and scored — but unless you've set a low ICP-fit threshold, it stays out of the active brief stream and the rep doesn't see it. You can pull a full "low-fit signal" report at any time (useful for ICP recalibration — sometimes a cluster of low-fit signals reveals a new segment worth exploring). On Team and Pro, the manager view lets you spot-check what's getting filtered out so the ICP rubric never becomes a black box.
Signals decay in score over time — a funding round from yesterday is a 100, from last week a 78, from last quarter a 30 (decay curve varies by signal type — funding stays fresh longer than a product launch). Below a freshness floor, the signal drops off the active brief but remains in your signal history. Solo keeps 30 days of full history; Team keeps 12 months; Pro keeps everything. You can re-pull historic signals into a brief at any time — useful for re-engaging accounts after a quiet period.

Have a signal type or source you wish we tracked? Tell us — we add a new source roughly every month.
