Ask Mama — natural-language queries.
Ask Mama is the chat-style interface to everything in your workspace. Type a question in plain English — "who's hiring data engineers right now?" — and get a ranked, briefable answer. Useful when you don't know which saved search to use.
TL;DR
Type a question, get a list. Ask Mama is a chat input that translates English questions into Mama queries. Works for accounts, signals, briefs, your archetypes, even teammate activity. Best for ad-hoc exploration — for queries you'll run weekly, save them as Saved searches instead.
01What Ask Mama is
A chat box at the top of every Mama screen (⌘K to focus). Type a question in plain English — Ask Mama translates it into a structured query against your workspace data and returns results inline.
Not a general-purpose chatbot. Not a search-the-internet feature. It's a translator from English to Mama's internal query language — so it can answer anything Mama could already answer if you knew which menu to click.
02Example questions
03What you can ask about
| Scope | Example |
|---|---|
| Accounts | "SaaS companies in NYC, 100-500 employees, with Snowflake" |
| Signals | "Fresh funding signals in the last 14 days" |
| Briefs | "Briefs my team generated last week" |
| Archetypes | "Show me my archetype reply rates" |
| People (decision-makers) | "VP Marketing hires at companies on my ICP list" |
| Saved searches | "Which of my saved searches haven't matched anything in 30 days?" |
| Workspace | "How many briefs total this month?" |
04Refining results
Results come back with filter chips at the top. Click chips to narrow ("only fresh signals," "only my saved accounts"). The query stays in the chat box so you can edit and re-run without retyping the whole thing.
Two refine shortcuts:
- "add filter X" as a follow-up message — extends the previous query
- "now show me only Y" — narrows the previous result set
05Save a question as a recurring search
If you find yourself asking the same question twice, save it. From the result page, click "Save as search" — the natural-language query becomes a saved search with optional Slack/email alerts.
This is the bridge between exploratory questioning and repeatable monitoring. Use Ask Mama to find patterns, then save the pattern as a search so you don't re-ask it weekly.
06Limits and limitations
- Scope: only your workspace. Ask Mama doesn't search the public web or other workspaces.
- Free tier: 50 questions/month. Pro+: unlimited.
- Latency: most queries return in <3 seconds. Complex multi-source queries can take 8-15s.
- Hallucinations: if Ask Mama can't translate a query, it tells you instead of guessing. We'd rather refuse than fabricate.
